Bellbrook
Inner city oasis
A run down inner city cottage was in luck when its current Owners’ chose it to make their home.
Local Leichhardt Council required realistic and reasonable arguments for the modest house additions to be permitted.
The design is centred on maximising light and controlling sunshine into the newly created living area. Northern highlight windows allow winter sunshine to project deep into the living areas, while two layers of extended eaves protect these same areas during hot summers.
The Builder was highly skilled in the craftmanship of building and in collaboration with the hands-on Homeowner has created highly resolved internal and external living areas.
Original stained glass windows are repurposed and add character to the smaller rooms.
Colour flecks in the internal exposed brick wall are repeated in the joinery and furnishings making the spaces polished.
This home provides an oasis to the hustle and bustle of nearby Sydney Town.
Outcome
• enclosed spaces that engage with the sunlit
external deck.
• original features retained and enhanced, and
incorporated into the addition design.
